The museum

Famous for the pastels of Saint-Quentin's most famous artist, Maurice-Quentin De La Tour, the Musée des Beaux-Arts Antoine Lécuyer houses a number of collections.

The prince of pastel artists
Spotted by Louis de Boullogne, then King Louis XV's first painter, who suggested that he make pastel on paper his favourite technique, Maurice-Quentin de La Tour made a lasting impression in 1735 with an elegant portrait of the author Voltaire, wearing a mischievous smile. Although the painting has now disappeared, his sketches are preserved in the Musée des Beaux-Arts.
