Chartreuse de Douai Museum

Take the TER to the Museum!

The museum

Douai is home to a real cultural nugget: the Musée de la Chartreuse. Built in 1559 by the d'Abancourt family, this mansion was sold to the Carthusian monks in 1662. It later became a cartridge factory, then a munitions and war material depot until 1940.

It's more than just architecture, it's an exciting story!

When you arrive at the Musée de la Chartreuse de Douai, the first thing you'll notice is the beauty of the facades and the wing dominated by the high square tower, built by the Montmorency family. Built in the Flemish Renaissance style, they are a subtle blend of stone and brick.
