A Fascinating Historical Center

Built by the Todt Organization in 1943 and 1944, La Coupole, which was meant to be a launch base for V2 rockets, is today an impressive relic of World War II. This secret underground base, of enormous size (71 meters in diameter, 55,000 tons of reinforced concrete, and 5.5 meters thick), houses two visitor routes dedicated to life under German occupation in the region and to Hitler’s secret weapons—the V1 and V2 rockets, precursors to our modern rockets.
