Pet ticket

Pets may travel subject to specific terms and conditions.

The benefits

  • You may take your pet with you when travelling by train

  • Fares are calculated using kilometre-based increments or the weight of your pet

  • Free for guide dogs or dogs in training

How does it work?

Animals allowed on board are small pets in a bag or closed carrier, muzzled dogs* and guide dogs.

To travel on trains with your pet, you have to buy a train ticket for each pet, up to a maximum of two pets.

Your pet must be accompanied and kept on a lead, and remains your responsibility throughout the journey.

Dogs, cats and other pets (hamsters, guinea pigs, etc.) are allowed, provided other travellers do not object.

You must travel with all the documents required for the pet's identification.

If your pet travels in a carrier:

- Make sure it is well ventilated and that your pet has enough room to turn around.

- Ask your vet for a suitable sedative if your pet gets anxious.

- Write the following information inside the carrier (pet's name, tattoo number, and your name, telephone number and destination address).

*Excluding 1st and 2nd category dogs (namely, attack and guard dogs), as defined by the French Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.

Fares in Nouvelle-Aquitaine and towards neighbouring regions

  • When travelling in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, the fare depends on the distance travelled (regardless of the weight of your pet).

This fare applies to all pets, whether on a lead and muzzled or in a carrier.

Fares calculated using kilometre-based increments for a single journey and per pet:

    from 0 to 43 km: €2

    from 44 to 80 km: €4

    as from 81 km: €7

Choose the "Billet Animal de Compagnie" (Pet ticket) fare

  • If you are travelling from the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region towards neighbouring regions: the fare that applies depends on the weight of your pet.

Your pet weighs less than 6 kg
It travels in a bag or carrier (45 cm x 30 cm x 25 cm, maximum), placed on your lap or at your feet, and its ticket costs €7 per single journey (regardless of the distance travelled).

Select the "Animal en contenant" (Pet in carrier) fare

Your dog weighs more than 6 kg
It must be muzzled throughout the journey and its single ticket is equivalent to 50% of the full fare price of a 2nd class ticket. It travels at your feet.

Select the "Chien muselé en laisse" (Dog muzzled on lead) fare
